"And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? If the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word." ~ 1 Kings 18:21
We still have prophets today, the problem is that even professing Christians have joined the ranks of persecuting them. They've been called bible beaters and modern day pharisees, and these do sometimes exist, but not nearly on the level at which accusation is going out. The reality is that most of them have spoken truth and have led no one away from Christ to sin.
They've never taught anyone to trust in themselves or their own actions above the sacrifice of Christ although they have been accused of such. None have taught holiness as a means to salvation, only as the reality of being saved.
"For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." ~ Philippians 2:13
Can we still do ALL things THROUGH CHRIST? (v 4:13) That verse, in context, explicitly means we can live a holy life no matter how hard it may be on the flesh because Christ empowers us to do so. He works in us both to desire to be holy and to actually act out holiness in our actions and deeds. The one who pacifies the tumult of a sinners soul with words like, "Sin is okay because of Jesus" is a liar and a troublemaker. They lead man away from Christ.
"Should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?" ~ Romans 6:1-2
It is the the one who denies the importance of meditating in all of God's Word that leads people away from Christ. They are the troublemakers. They work iniquity and call it good. They call the true prophets evil even as those prophets are carrying out the explicit Will of God in this earth. They are false prophets, prophets of Baal.
It has come true what the wise King Soloman once said, "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." ~ Ecclesiates 1:9
Elijah came to Ahab and Ahab's response to the prophet was, "Art thou he that troubleth Israel?" But Elijah answered saying, "I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim." It is not the one who calls us out of sin that causes us trouble. The sin we choose causes our trouble; the true prophet brings us knowledge of it with provision, Jesus Christ, to be free from it.
"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because MANY false prophets have gone out into the world." ~ 1 John 4:1
Jesus is coming! Be a blessing and be wise.
