Strivings Over the Law

Ever meet a person whose response to being discipled always ends up with "strivings" "about the law"? It is difficult to help a person who has no DESIRE for obedience (Phil 2:13) to Christ's law to understand the difference between The Mosaic Law and the Law of Christ. (Gal 6:2 & 1 Cor 9:21) Many of the times Paul refers to "the law" in scripture he is referring specifically to the Law of Moses, not to just any arbitrary act of obedience. It is important to read and teach scripture within context. Jesus said to take His yoke for it is easy and His burden is light (Matt 11:30), but notice that He does call it a yoke and burden that one must "take" a bear. He also tells us that if we will not take up our cross and follow Him we are not worthy to be disciples. (Luke 9:23) "Loving thy neighbor" has become a catch phrase for the lazy who'd rather not carry their cross to be disciples. What does the Word of God tell us about how to handle a divisive person like this? >"But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. WARN a divisive person ONCE, and THEN WARN them A SECOND TIME. After that, have nothing to do with them." Titus 3:9-10 This does not mean you will never be willing to minister to this person again, but in order to move ahead in ministry you cannot get caught up in long argumentative discussions with a person who WILL NOT listen and be corrected or taught Truth. You must be willing to dust your feet and continue the work God has sent you to do. You may find that at a later time this person is more willing to listen and understand, but after a couple of attempts it is time to move on. Too many are perishing daily for ministers to be caught in a rut with one who does not want to be helped out. Always be led by The Holy Spirit in all that you do and do not be afraid to move on. ♥
